The Council of Elders of the 120 communities and villages that make up Nsukka Local Government Area have expressed confidence that the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Enugu State, Dr. Peter Mbah, is going to win the 2023 general elections by a landslide, insisting that they have faith in Mbah’s ability to deliver good governance in the state based on his successful career in the private sector.

The revered Nsukka elders who converged on Nsukka town over the weekend, said nothing would stop their people from voting for the PDP gubernatorial flagbearer in the forthcoming elections as they had reached a consensus to adopt Mbah as their sole candidate.

While praying and presenting the ófó staff to the accomplished technocrat and Enugu’s foremost industrialist, the elders said the people of Nsukka had prepared to give him their maximum electoral support.

Speaking at the event, the leader of the council, Chief Edeoga Ejike Emeuwa, said, “all of us in Nsukka are prepared to support you (Mbah). You will enter the Lion Building with celebration. You have the support of Nsukka people.”

On his part, the General Secretary of the Council, Edeoga Emmanuel Onyishi, noted that they had already declared their unflinching support for the candidate of the ruling party in the state, saying Nsukka people will vote massively for him because of his unblemished credentials and competence to move the state forward.

According to him, the elders and the people had resolved to give him their support through their prayer and ófó staff presentation, praying that God would continue to give Mbah the strength to transform the state when he wins in 2023.

“I’m the General Secretary, Council of Elders, 120 villages in Nsukka. We are the elders called Ndi Ichie and the Chief Executive Officers of each of the villages in Nsukka town.

“We are here to honour our son, a former commissioner in Enugu State, Hon. Peter Okonkwo and also the incoming Governor of Enugu State, by the grace of God, Dr. Peter Ndubuishi Mbah, the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic party in our state. We are here to pray for him and present our own ófó staff to him to show that we are fully behind him and that the entire people of Nsukka local government area have adopted him as our sole candidate.

“We are praying for his victory, progress and strength to fulfill all his mandate when he gets to the Lion Building.

“Ófó staff in our Igbo culture is a symbol of authority. A symbol that shows approval from the elder in each community or village.

“My message to our people in Nsukka land is for us to keep on supporting the candidacy of Dr. Peter Mbah because he is the best candidate. Mbah should rest assured that we, the elders, are here on behalf of the entire people of Nsukka local government area, and we have already declared our support for him. We are happy with him because the man he will be succeeding as the governor of this state, Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, has done well for our people, and are also happy with Hon. Peter Okonkwo. So, our Nsukka people will vote massively for Mbah’s candidature during the elections. All the people of Nsukka will vote for him; both men and women. We are confident that he will deliver on his mandate for our people.”

Expressing delight over the presence of the soon-to-be elected governor of the state, Hon. Okonkwo said the people of Nsukka only know one governorship candidate in the state, and promised to rally his people to vote for him.

Okonkwo who said the people of Nsukka had settled for Mbah’s candidacy, vowed to continue to mobilize for him until he emerges victorious. He said their decision was as a result of their belief that Mbah’s administration will bring practical development for the state.

He further called on the people to eschew undue sentiments in their choice of who can deliver good governance to the people, stressing that Mbah possesses the capacity, ability and character to attract developments in the state.

Reacting to the unanimous endorsement by the various communities and villages, Mbah promised to bring the needed infrastructure to the area.

Mbah who expressed gratitude at the love showered on him by the people of Nsukka, maintained that he will run an all-inclusive government where justice, equity and fairness will be the tenets.
