A former Press Secretary to Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Amaka Ekwo, on Tuesday, urged the separatist group to support the 2023 general elections in the Southeast.

Ekwo urged IPOB to encourage people of the Southeast to participate in the 2023 elections.

She said the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, would be disadvantaged in the 2023 elections if IPOB prevented the Southeast from participating in the general election.

In a tweet on Tuesday, Ekwo stressed that referendum would be difficult for the Southeast to achieve if IPOB prevents the region from participating in the 2023 general election.

She wrote: “We must be careful. Any attempt to stop the election in Biafra-land will not be good for IPOB. If IPOB puts @PeterObi at a disadvantage in the coming election, Igbo politicians will never allow #BiafraReferendum to take place. They may fight to end IPOB.”

Ekwo also noted that the All Progressives Congress, APC-led administration “does not respect the rule of law.”

She added that voter apathy from the Southeast means the governing party’s chances of retaining power in 2023 are high.
